This work shows the potential of EIS, with improvements, towards estimating blood flow-induced variation in arteries. Further analysis and improvements could help place this technology in mainstream clinical practice for hemodynamic monitoring.This paper presented a laboratory investigation for analyzing the natural frequency response of reinforced concrete (RC) beams affected by steel corrosion. The electrochemical acceleration technique induced the corroded RC beams until the predetermined value of the steel corrosion ratio was achieved. Then, the natural frequency responses of the corroded beams were tested utilizing piezoelectric acceleration sensors. The damage states of the corroded beams were assessed through the measurement of crack parameters and the equivalent elastic modulus of the beams, which aims to clarify the fundamental characteristics of the dynamic response for the corroded RC beam with the increased steel corrosion ratio. The results revealed that steel corrosion reduces the bending stiffness of the RC beams and, thus, reduces the modal frequency. The variation of natural frequency can identify the corrosion damage even if no surface cracking of the RC beam, and the second-order frequency should be more indicative of the damage scenario. The degradations of stiffness and the natural frequency were estimated in this study by the free vibration equation of a simply supported beam, and a prediction method for the RC beam's residual service life was established. This study supports the use of variations in natural frequency as one diagnostic indicator to evaluate the health of RC bridge structures.The ability to block human-to-mosquito and mosquito-to-human transmission of Plasmodium parasites is fundamental to accomplish the ambitious goal of malaria elimination. While natural products have been extensively investigated for the development of chemotherapeutic antimalarial agents, their potential use as transmission-blocking drugs is comparatively poorly explored. Here, we provide a comprehensive summary of the activities of natural products (and their derivatives) of plant and microbial origins against sexual stages of Plasmodium parasites and the Anopheles mosquito vector. We identify the prevailing challenges and opportunities and suggest how these can be mitigated and/or exploited in an endeavor to expedite transmission-blocking drug discovery efforts from natural products.The Landsat 8 satellites have retrieved land surface temperature (LST) resampled at a 30-m spatial resolution since 2013, but the urban climate studies frequently use a limited number of images due to the problems related to missing data over the city of interest. This paper endorses a procedure for building a long-term gap-free LST data set in an urban area using the high-resolution Landsat 8 imagery. The study is applied on 94 images available through 2013-2018 over Bucharest (Romania). The raw images containing between 1.1% and 58.4% missing LST data were filled in using the Data INterpolating Empirical Orthogonal Functions (DINEOF) algorithm implemented in the sinkr R packages. The resulting high-spatial-resolution gap-filled land surface temperature data set was used to explore the LST climatology over Bucharest (Romania) an urban area, at a monthly, seasonal, and annual scale. The performance of the gap-filling method was checked using a cross-validation procedure, and the results pledge for the development of an LST-based urban climatology.Chronic liver inflammation progressively evokes fibrosis and cirrhosis resulting in compromised liver function, and often leading to cancer. Early diagnosis and staging of fibrosis is crucial because the five-year survival rate of early-stage liver cancer is high. This study investigates the progression of hepatic fibrosis induced in rats following ingestion of diethylnitrosamine (DEN). Changes in oxygen saturation and hemoglobin concentration resulting from chronic inflammation were assayed longitudinally during DEN ingestion by photoacoustic imaging (PAI). Accompanying liver tissue changes were monitored simultaneously by B-mode sonographic imaging. Oxygen saturation and hemoglobin levels in the liver increased over 5 weeks and peaked at 10 weeks before decreasing at 13 weeks of DEN ingestion. The oxygenation changes were accompanied by an increase in hepatic echogenicity and coarseness in the ultrasound image. Histology at 13 weeks confirmed the development of severe fibrosis and cirrhosis. The observed increase in PA signal representing enhanced blood oxygenation is likely an inflammatory physiological response to the dietary DEN insult that increases blood flow by the development of neovasculature to supply oxygen to a fibrotic liver during the progression of hepatic fibrosis. Assessment of oxygenation by PAI may play an important role in the future assessment of hepatic fibrosis.This study aims to examine the differential effect of discrimination on stress between social-mix and independent public housing complexes. We analyzed the 2017 Seoul Public Housing Residents Panel Study data that were collected from public housing residents living in Seoul, Korea by running ordinal logit analyses.
